Obtaining Medical Insurance Benefits
Medical care is extremely expensive in the United States. If you have a disability, you are likely aware of the high costs associated with treating various medical conditions.
Applying For Medical Benefits
There are two basic types of medical benefits that you probably have heard about — Medicaid and Medicare.
- Medicaid: Medicaid is a program that is funded jointly by federal and state health insurance for low-income individuals and disabled individuals. If you are on Supplemental Security Income, you are entitled to Medicaid assistance.
- Medicare: Medicare is a program that is usually for individuals who are over the age of 65. However, if you are on Social Security Disability Insurance, regardless of your age, you will become entitled to Medicare as well. There are four parts to Medicare, including hospital insurance, medical insurance, Medicare advantage and prescription drug coverage. Medicare assists with coverage but does not cover all medical expenses.
